Linden Hills Farmers' Market
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16
DAY
THANK
YOUR
FARMER
today is
our farmers put the farm in our market.
And your donation keeps your farmers' market going strong.
From events like, PICKLED, a Fermentation Festival and Julia Child's Birthday with Lynne Rossetto Kasper to SECONDS SUNDAY and our Holiday Market - May thru December, we bring you the best indie-gredients, food makers, market growers and gift crafters.
the LHFM is more than an event, we are a community cause.
~ My grandmother used to say that one in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher, but every day, three times a day, you need a farmer. ~ Brenda Schoepp

Among the goals that serve Moonstone Farm and its guide to decision making is the lesson they take from the the great prairies that preceded European immigration to western Minnesota. Its 240-acres support continuous living cover in the form of grazing and hay acres, 40 planted acres of 42 woody species, woods and water.
AND this weekend
is Meander,
an art crawl
of rural
proportions.
An annual event.

THIS SUNDAY IS
SECONDS SUNDAY
EVERY SECOND SUNDAY OF THE MONTH
We believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
This is no more true than in the case of ugly fruits and vegetables.
These darlings go unloved by consumers, leading to 6 billion pounds of produce being wasted every year. But - - even worse - did you know that 43 billion pounds of processed food products go wasted at the retail level every year?
SECONDS
SUNDAY
we are more than a
pretty market
Every second Sunday of the month our vendors bring you SECONDS SUNDAY - the very best of our un-wasted. Our food makers will sell those bottles with the wonky labels, the cookies that broke in the bag and the too-tall tomatoes. As someone who wants to waste less - this is the day for you! Browse, buy and be happy with imperfections - know you are changing the world one purchase at a time.
IThis year they are recognizing our hardworking Minnesota farmers. Because no farmers no food.
IThe Charlie Awards is an annual event celebrating the exceptional contributions of the Twin Cities area
restaurant, food and beverage industries.

Iyer's latest cookbook includes, 75 glorious recipes from around the world, featuring everyone's favorite comfort food - a collection that will explode your idea of what it means to eat and love potatoes.
Pasta, step aside! Mashed. Baked. Fried. Roasted, smashed, boiled, braised, and whipped. It doesn’t matter how you serve them—potatoes are a beloved staple. In Smashed, Mashed, Boiled, and Baked--and Fried, Too! award-winning cooking teacher and author Raghavan Iyer dives in, creating 75 great-tasting potato dishes with roots in cuisines far and near—from Potato-Stuffed Chile Rellenos to the Ultimate French Fries; from West African Sweet Potato Soup to Rosti to Potato Pierogies; from Hasselback Potatoes with Cardamom Butter to Potato Lasagna with Lemon Ricotta. What’s not to love!
The recipes are tied together with stories and anecdotes that weave in the cultural, historical, and social influence of the potato over its 10,000-year history. “If a man really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow.”—A. A. Milne

Kitchens of the Midwest
The Minnesota Farmers Market Cookbook is a guide to choosing, preserving, and preparing the seasonal food you find at farmers markets, plus 80 recipes from local chefs and farmers.
Bowls of heavy, red tomatoes; stacks of tender sweet corn; baskets of crisp green beans: this is what summer looks like at the farmers market. The number of farmers markets in Minnesota has more than tripled over the last decade (from 45 in 2002 to more than 150 today) as we search out the healthiest, most delicious, and most local food we can find. The trouble is, sometimes we simply don’t know what to do with a heaping basket of green beans—not to mention $3 of kohlrabi. The Minnesota Farmers Market Cookbook solves that problem.
About Kitchens of the Midwest:
Have you met Eva Thorvald? To her father, a chef, she's a pint-sized recipe tester and the love of his life. To the chilli chowdown contestants of Cook County, Illinois, she's a fire-eating demon. To the fashionable foodie goddess of supper clubs, she's a wanton threat. She's an enigma, a secret ingredient that no one can figure out. Someday, Eva will surprise everyone.
One by one, they tell their story; together, they tell Eva's. Joyful, quirky and heartwarming, this is a novel about the family you lose, the friends you make and the chance connections that make a life.

LOVE IS A MARKET
Settergren's Ace Hardware hosts our market each week throughout the summer season. Did you know Settergren's donates 100% of their parking lot, and that the LHFM 501c3 pays nothing to set up shop?
Also, Settergren's purchased our market tents and picnic tables. They pay for our electricity and waste disposal, too. They - EVEN - store our supplies and provide our seating.
All this being said, our board of directors and managers ask you to frequent Settergren's. Our neighborhood sponsors give time and dollars to create our community market. We thank them!
